Clarksville Family: I am sure that all of you know that we are expecting a major winter storm to hit Red River County later today. The models that we have monitored indicate clearly that we should expect a 90% chance of precipitation tonight lasting well into the day on Thursday. More significantly is the expectation that temperatures will drop below freezing in the morning hours of Thursday and are not expected to rise above freezing until later in the day on Friday. All of this leads to C.I.S.D. closing both Thursday and Friday to ensure the safety of both staff and students. All extra-curricular activities have been suspended for these two days as well. Our students are expected to complete a full day of school today and will be delivered home to you at their normal time. I can add that I find the constant disruptions in our pursuit of education of our youth troubling. We have thoroughly invested in our kids this year with the addition of more staff members than in prior years, added much needed fine arts programs at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels and raised our overall expectations for learning. My visits to the campuses and seeing the progress being made on tests that we have administered during the year have left me extremely optimistic about the direction of our district. What events such as this disrupt is MOMENTUM that we have established. I remain proud of our kids because despite the constant disruptions they continue to show up with great attitudes. They can only be categorized as being resilient. Please continue to take care of yourselves and our children and let’s get back at it on Monday.
