Community: I can assure all parents that we are off to a fantastic start of the school year and we are having our best year yet. The proof of that should be within your kids---ask them. Despite getting off to a great start I still carry worry and concern within me. The truth is we are one significant Covid outbreak away our well-earned momentum coming to an abrupt halt. There are a few districts around us that are experiencing this now with some school districts opting to close the entire school system down or at a minimum having a full classroom remain at home. As I speak today, it appears that our systems of Covid -19 prevention are working. You do have a commitment from me that we remain transparent with you and our entire community to provide on-going and accurate information regarding our Covid-19 student and staff diagnosis situation. Currently we have 1 student in the elementary school with Covid-19 and one student in the Head Start program with a positive diagnosis. There are no students at the secondary level diagnosed with Covid-19. We have one teacher who was diagnosed with Covid-19 yet that diagnosis was before the first day of school and the source of the teacher’s diagnosis likely came from outside of CISD. Although we remain concerned with the two individuals currently at home and the teacher, the overall low infection rate indicates that our current Covid-19 preventions systems and practices seem to be working. Covid-19 has successfully and consistently demonstrated to us that it has a mind of its own and we all well know by now that things can change significantly overnight. I will continue to provide you with current information as we experience significant changes.
